We all know that aviation comes under a lot of criticism about the impact on the environment. Many environmental campaigners say that aviation is the fastest growing contributor to global warming. This is of course is disputed by those in the know but the dialogue continues with the help of the media.
It’s amazing to learn of the efforts in train by many responsible airlines with initiatives such as alternative fuels, carbon offset programmes and environmental assessments.
Also from the manufacturers, there is a huge amount going on at the moment with new engine and airframe designs for the short term, as well as a huge amount of development looking at blended wing planes and hydrogen fuel cells.
What is really great to see is that airlines are a key player when it comes to citizenship. It is amazing to see the contribution made to funds, trusts and other organisations they support within their communities, in their quest to help the environment.
